Chelsea have suffered a fresh blow as João Pedro has withdrawn from Brazil’s squad for the September international break after sustaining an injury. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed the news on Wednesday, announcing that Fluminense midfielder Matheus Martinelli will replace the Chelsea striker in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for friendlies against Australia (Sept 25 & 29) and India (Oct 3). The striker’s absence is also a worry for Chelsea, who face Brentford on Friday in their final match before the international break. Pedro had played the full 90 minutes and scored in the 2-2 draw against Hull last weekend, making the injury news unexpected. Chelsea have yet to confirm details of the problem, leaving fans anxious about his availability for upcoming fixtures.
